Herbal Sex Spam
Hello all!
Good God, is it just me, or are my readers also getting overloaded with herbal sex enhancement spam??????
Everyday, when opening the buylibidus/buymaxidus email accounts, I am overwhelmed with that crap.
Someone, somewhere, has FAT pockets and is really doing an aggressive email spam campaign. Makes me wish I knew more about how to sue spammers. Yeah, let me have some of that cash you're throwing away in spam!
And, you know, it's the same old shit dressed in a different package. Shine it on, folks.
-----------------
I've been reading some good things about Viagra lately that almost makes me want to return to the days of yore when I used to do a Libidus/Maxidus/Viagra cocktail.
Why, you ask? Well, seems Viagra/Sildenafil increases the release of several key reporductive hormones.
The big brains at the U of Wisconsin/Madison have found that Sildenafil
actually increases the amount of Oxytocin released by stimultion of the posterior pituitary gland, which is a small gland directly below the brain that is said to regulate hormone levels in response to neural signals.
It is claimed that this is the first evidence of a chemical mechanism through which erectile dysfunction drugs - the PDE-5s - may have physical effects other than simply increasing blood flow to sex organs, or so says Meyer Jackson, a professor of physiology at the U.
Yeah, well, Old Duffer Al is not sure about that one. I can't recall, but I do remember something about Levitra and how it had additional benefits other that ED. Hmmm...have to go back in the archives and see if I can find it.
Just what is Oxytocin(Greek: "quick birth") A quick search finds that it is a mammalian hormone that also acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain. In females, it is released in large amounts after distension of the cervix and vagina during labor, and after stimulation of the nipples, facilitating birth and breastfeeding, respectively.
In humans, oxytocin is released during orgasm in both sexes. In the brain, oxytocin is involved in social recognition and bonding, and might be involved in the formation of trust between people.[1] Also, oxytocin has been known to affect the brain by regulating circadian homeostasis, such as a person's body temperature, activity level, and wakefulness [2].
Oxytocin release is regulated by an enzyme that acts like a braking system, limiting hormone release by dampening neural excitation of the cells. This same enzyme, phosphodiesterase type 5, also limits blood flow by contracting the muscles around blood vessels.
Whoa! Heavy duty hormone, folks!
Anywho...sildenafil acts by blocking this enzyme, essentially releasing the brakes, says Jackson. In blood vessels, relaxing smooth muscle increases blood flow, which rectifies erectile dysfunction. In the posterior pituitary, the cells become more responsive. Jackson says that the same stimulation will produce more oxytocin release.
He goes on to say that he believes this is a missing link in terms of trying to sort out the issues around whether there are additional effects of the PDE-5 inhibitors, like Viagra, Levitra and Cialis.
In truth, folks, this study was done on...you guessed it, RATS (who else?)
I'm going to sum up that study with this: The PDE-5s do not induce erections spontaneously (hey, that's the job of Libidus/Maxidus), they enhance the response to sexual stimulation.
The same thing is happening in the posterior pituitary -- Viagra will not induce the release of oxytocin on its own, but it will enhance the amount of relaese you get in response to electrical (neural) stimulation.
It could be, according to Jackson, that Viagra and the other PDE-5s may work through multiple channels. More study, however, is needed.
The study does raise the possibility that erectile dysfunction drugs could be doing more than just affecting erectile dysfunction.
Well, makes old man Al wonder if my Cialis is doing the same? I can only hope!
Well, folks, I'm off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of fish.
Until then!
Old Duffer Al
