The Blue Pill...so, where's the pink pill?
The Blue Pill...so, where's the pink pill?
Good day, readers!
Today, I'd like to address an issue - more of a query, actually, that I've been getting from the women folk.
We all know that there are a boat-load of medications, both herbal and non-herbal, out there in sexual dysfunction land to treat men. In addition, if we men experience sexual libido/desire issues, we have options like testosterone, including Androgel and Testim.
Well, folk, seems the ladies have been left high and dry, so to speak. Where in hell are all the medical options for them? Will we ever have a little pink pill?
Seems we're nearing that event. Intrinsa, a testosterone patch for women, is being developed by a company which shall go nameless here for over 2 years. The patch works, folks, but the idiots at the FDA haven't approved it yet.
And while the FDA muddles about in typical FDA fashion, the Intrinsa patch has been given the big OK in Europe and will soon be available to our enlightened neighbors to the north - Canada. Sure makes you wonder about the FDA...
Meanwhile, other nameless pharmaceutical firms are hard at work developing other, non-hormonal meds for the ladies, which go by the monkier, FSD - female sexual dysfunction.
Flibanserin, one drug now in Phase III clinical trials (an advanced stage of testing in humans), acts on the central serotonin and dopamine systems in the brain. Various forms of the dopamine receptor agonist apomorphine are being studied but there are problems with nausea that must be overcome. Another promising drug, bremelanotide, is inhaled through the nose and acts rapidly on receptors in the brain. It is now being tested in humans in Phase IIA and IIB trials. Finally, tibolone is another hormone-based drug popular in Europe and now being tested in the U.S.
The above are but a few of the meds being considered for the ladies. There exists a pretty damn big pipeline of meds, and, sooner or later, one of them is bound to be approved in the USA. As we're all aware, sexual dysfunction means big dollars and cents!
I'm going to begin a search of any online pharmacies that sell intrinsa, so the ladies can bypass the FDA crap and order overseas, like I do with Cialis.
Hang in there, ladies, Old Duffer Al to the rescue! Just hope I don't kick the tire before I find something.
Best of health to all!
Old Duffer Al
